A woman was hit by a sedan when she stepped into a crosswalk on the west end of Riverside Wednesday, suffering life-threatening injuries.

The pedestrian, identified only as a Riverside resident, was struck shortly after 1 p.m. at the intersection of Arlington Avenue and Ben Lomand Way, a few blocks from Riverside Municipal Airport, according to the Riverside Police Department.

Sgt. Emilio Angulo said the victim entered the crosswalk on Arlington and was hit by an eastbound 2005 Toyota Corolla being driven by a 25-year-old man, whose name was not disclosed.

The driver, uninjured, immediately stopped.

The victim was taken to Riverside Community Hospital for treatment of major impact injuries, according to Angulo. She was in critical condition late Wednesday afternoon.

The motorist was questioned but not arrested.

Angulo said it did not appear that alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the department’s Traffic Bureau at 951-826-8720.
