No arrests were made after a large crowd went on a rampage in downtown Los Angeles overnight, vandalizing businesses and an MTA train, authorities said Sunday.
Officers were dispatched at about 10 p.m. Saturday to the 1700 block of Trinity Street regarding a “large group of protesters trespassing” and vandalizing area businesses, including an MTA train, according to the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Division.
An LAPD spokesperson said the caller reported at least 1,000 people at the scene, but the department could not corroborate that number.
According to ABC7, several hundred people had gathered for a non-permitted rooftop event at what appeared to be an abandoned building. The station said police fired rubber bullets after they issued multiple warnings to clear the scene.
The area is located a few blocks south of the Fashion District, between East Washington Boulevard and Interstate 10.
No arrests or injuries were reported.
A Metro spokesperson could not be reached for immediate comment.
