A 43-year-old man was arrested in connection with a shooting in Long Beach’s Shoreline Village area that left a 14-year-old boy and two adults with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, authorities said Monday.
The shooting was reported at 10:50 p.m. Sunday in the area of Shoreline Drive and Shoreline Village Drive, according to Long Beach Police Department Lt. Brandon Deis.
Arriving officers found a woman with gunshot wounds to the upper body who was taken to a hospital by paramedics.
Investigators also learned that a 14-year-old boy had “self-transported” to a hospital with an injury to one leg or foot, Deis said.
They then learned that a man took himself to a hospital with a similar injury, he said.
“The preliminary investigation indicates that an altercation occurred between a large group of subjects outside near a boat, which escalated when at least one suspect discharged a firearm,” according to a police statement. “The group and boat fled the scene before officers arrived.”
Officers located a boat matching the description nearby, and in conducting a vessel stop, located the sole occupant, Joshua Eduardo Jones of Apple Valley.
Jones, 43, was arrested on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, prohibited possessor in possession of ammunition, carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, and carrying a loaded firearm in a public place, police said.
He was booked at the Long Beach Jail with no bail.
The motive and circumstances of the shooting were still under investigation.
