A woman driving a van who led police on a chase from Van Nuys to Woodland Hills was taken into custody at the end of the pursuit Monday after a shooting involving police officers, authorities said.
Paramedics dispatched to 20935 W. Arcana Road at 8:13 a.m. Monday rushed a 42-year-old woman to a hospital in serious condition, said Lyndsey Lantz of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The pursuit began at about 7:45 a.m. Monday in the area of Hart Street and Garland Avenue in Van Nuys, where officers were responding to report of a woman with a gun.
The chase ended at about 8:10 a.m. at a cul-de-sac in Woodland Hills, in the area of Arcana Road and Marmora Street, where the woman — along with a dog — barricaded inside the van.
The shooting occurred over an hour later, according to police.
“SWAT resources were requested and responded to the scene. Around 9:15 a.m., while the suspect was outside of the vehicle, an officer-involved shooting occurred,” the LAPD posted on X.
“By 10:15 a.m., the suspect was taken into custody. She was transported by the Los Angeles Fire Department to a local hospital, where she is receiving medical treatment. The investigation is ongoing.”
Police did not immediately release further information, but ABC7 reported that the woman got out of the van and jumped on the vehicle’s roof while holding a gun to her head, then jumped off and ran onto the porch of a nearby home prior to the shooting.
