A Desert Hot Springs man was arrested for allegedly fleeing after hitting a bicyclist with his car in Cathedral City, authorities announced Monday.
Miguel Angel Romero Vallejo, 22, was booked into the Benoit Detention Center in Indio Sunday on suspicion of a hit-and-run resulting in injury. His bail was set at $25,000 bail.
According to Cathedral City Sgt. Rudy Castro, officers responded shortly after 2:40 p.m. Sunday to multiple 911 calls about a bicyclist struck by a vehicle on Date Palm Drive, north of Perez Road.
Officers found the victim, described only as a Cathedral City man, who was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs for treatment of multiple injuries, Castro said. His condition was listed as stable, but the severity of his injuries was not immediately known.
Investigators said the victim was riding in the bike lane northbound on Date Palm Drive when he was hit from behind.
“The vehicle came to a stop following the collision. However, the driver fled the scene on foot,” Castro said.
Officers found Vallejo about 10 minutes later walking on a sidewalk roughly a mile from the collision, Castro said. Vallejo later provided a statement to authorities.
Anyone with information about the crash was urged to contact Sgt. Daniel Anes at 760-202-2476, or at Danes@cathedralcity.gov.
