Injuries suffered by a man in a hammer attack that started with a fight in a bathroom at the Glendale Galleria do not appear to be life threatening, police said Monday.
Officers swarmed the third level of the shopping mall at1:25 pm. Sunday after getting a report that one man was attacking another with a hammer.
The suspect, a man in his mid-20s whose name was not disclosed, was detained without force when officers arrived, according to Glendale Police Department spokesman Sgt. Jose Barajas.
The victim, 20, was bleeding from the head, while the suspect had a bloody nose, police said.
“The altercation started in the bathroom [and] escalated into a fist fight,” Barajas explained. “The suspect took out a hammer he had concealed in his waistband and started to attack the victim. A witness observed this and intervened.”
Officers recovered the hammer.
