A 64-year-old woman died in a single-vehicle crash in Lancaster that may have involved intoxication, authorities said Tuesday.

Officers were notified about 12:10 p.m. Monday of a vehicle being driven recklessly on eastbound State Route 138 (Avenue D) near 90th Street West, according to the California Highway Patrol.

“As officers responded to the area, the incident evolved into a traffic crash,” the CHP said.

According to initial findings, the woman was driving a 2000 Isuzu eastbound on Route 138 west of 60th Street when the vehicle veered off the highway into a dirt field and overturned. She was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected, suffering fatal injuries, the CHP said.

Her name was not immediately available.

“Alcohol and/or drugs are suspected to be a factor in this traffic crash,” according to the CHP.

The crash closed 60th Street West at State Route 134 (Avenue D) for about two hours.

Anyone with information about the crash was urged to call the investigating officer at 661-743-6060.
