A 21-year-old man was arrested for allegedly possessing a firearm and multiple narcotics following a traffic stop, police announced Friday.
Officers initiated a traffic stop due to an alleged equipment violation shortly after 1 a.m. July 10 in the 46000 block of Rubidoux Street, according to Indio police Sgt. Abe Plata.
Officers determined the motorist was driving without a license and had an active misdemeanor warrant for his arrest due to an unspecified reason, Plata said.
A subsequent search of the vehicle turned up a 12-gauge loaded shotgun in the front passenger’s lap, along with 24 grams of methamphetamine, 4.5 grams of fentanyl, 2.4 grams of cocaine and 17 individual baggies each containing 0.1 grams of fentanyl, according to police.
The passenger, identified only as a 38-year-old woman, was removed from the vehicle and arrested for alleged possession of drug paraphernalia, Plata said. She was later cited and released at the Indio Police Station.
The motorist was identified as Jose Esteban Alvarez Solis, who was taken into custody without incident.
Solis was booked into Benoit Detention Center in Indio on suspicion of narcotics violations, weapons-related offenses and for the warrant.
Background information on Solis was not immediately available.
