A man suspected of stealing an SUV in South Los Angeles Wednesday evening led police on a nearly 30-minute chase before a brief standoff and being taken into custody.
The pursuit began around 7:50 p.m. Wednesday, when officers tried to pull over a stolen vehicle near Wadsworth Avenue and East 79th Street, but the driver refused to stop and sped through surface streets, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Aerial footage showed several spike strips deployed during the chase, which the suspect drove over while continuing to flee.
The driver stopped near 76th Street and Central Avenue on Los Angeles’ city limits with the unincorporated Florence-Firestone area at approximately 8:15 p.m., after officers conducted a PIT maneuver, leading to the brief standoff.
After several minutes of intermittently opening and closing the driver’s side door, possibly in response to the presence of K9 units, both occupants surrendered to officers.
No injuries were reported.
