A 31-year-old Norwalk man suffered a medical emergency inside a cell at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning, in Riverside County, and died at a nearby hospital, authorities said Sunday.
The death occurred Saturday, according to Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Christopher Wedel.
The inmate was identified as Christopher Martinez, Wedel said.
Martinez’s death was under investigation, he said.
