A Dana Hills High School basketball coach was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of having a sexual relationship with an teenage girl.
Michael Joseph Duran, 44, of Aliso Viejo, was accused of having a sexual relationship with the victim dating back to last year, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies were “contacted by a mandated reporter” this month about an “inappropriate relationship” between Duran and the victim, sheriff’s officials said.
When deputies spoke with the girl she said she was “groomed” for a relationship with him while he was an assistant basketball coach at the high school, deputies said.
Duran also coaches a basketball club in San Juan Capistrano known as SOCAL FINS, so investigators are concerned there may be more alleged victims, officials said. Anyone with information about Duran was asked to call deputies at 714-647-7419 or 714-647-7000. Orange County Crime Stoppers will accept anonymous tips at 855-TIP-OCCS.
