Authorities Monday were investigating a two-vehicle collision in Indio that left a driver and a pedestrian with minor injuries.
The crash was reported around 12:10 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of Clinton Street and Miles Avenue, according to the Indio Police Department.
A 55-year-old man driving a Honda van attempted a left turn into a gas station against oncoming southbound traffic when his vehicle collided with a BMW sedan driven by a 24-year-old man, according to Sgt. Abe Plata.
The impact caused the BMW to leave the roadway, mount the sidewalk and pin a 31-year-old pedestrian against a mailbox, Plata said. A nearby mother and her two children avoided injury by moving away in time.
Riverside County firefighters extricated the pedestrian, who was taken to a hospital along with the BMW driver, Plata said.
The van driver later left the scene with the help of a bystander to seek medical care at JFK Hospital in Indio, according to Plata.
The names of those involved were not released.
“DUI is not suspected as a factor at this time,” Plata said.
