A man was arrested and hospitalized with major injuries after allegedly driving under the influence and causing a collision in Coachella, as authorities Friday continued their investigation.
The driver was southbound on Calhoun Street in a white Toyota Corolla shortly before 10:30 p.m. Thursday when he failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Avenue 52 and struck a power pole, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP Officer David Torres said the Corolla collided into an unoccupied Nissan Frontier after hitting the power pole.
As a result, the Frontier was pushed into a taco truck occupied by a man and a woman who complained of pain, but were not taken to a hospital.
The driver was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Spring to be treated for his injuries and was arrested on suspicion of DUI, Torres said.
The collision was under investigation by CHP.
