A woman was mortally wounded in a shooting while trying to stop a fight aboard a Metro bus in the Westchester area of Los Angeles, authorities said Saturday.
The shooting occurred about 10:50 p.m. Friday at Manchester and Belford avenues, Los Angeles Police Department Officer Drake Madison told City News Service.
“A bus operator headed eastbound on Metro Bus Line 115 near LAX heard gunshots from the rear of the bus and immediately stopped allowing all passengers to exit,” said Metro spokesman Jose Ubaldo. “One passenger was found injured and transported to a local hospital where they later succumbed to their injuries.”
A fight broke out on the bus between a 20-year-old man and another passenger, according to a desk officer at the Los Angeles Police Department’s Operations Center. The woman pulled out her pepper spray to use on the suspect and the suspect shot her.
A news videographer at the scene said arriving officers immediately began CPR on the woman who was shot in the chest.
Ubaldo urged anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 800-222- 8477.
