A 6-year-old girl is safe with her father Thursday after she was found wandering on Magic Mountain Parkway in Santa Clarita.
Deputies received a call from a good Samaritan about 10:45 p.m. Wednesday who said they had found the child, who was wearing only a diaper, wandering alone in the 24400 block of Magic Mountain Parkway.
“The child, who appeared to have developmental challenges and was wearing only a diaper, was seen crossing a major intersection without a parent or guardian,” Deputy Robert Jensen of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Santa Clarita Station said. “Using the child’s iPad, deputies were able to quickly identify her name and address. They responded to the residence, where they located the child’s mother asleep inside. The suspect displayed symptoms of intoxication, including slurred speech, impaired coordination and a strong odor of alcohol. She was unaware of her child’s absence.”
Deputies felt the child would not be safe with the allegedly drunk mother, who was arrested on suspicion of felony child endangerment and taken to the station for booking.
The girl’s father was located and took custody of the child, Jensen said, adding that the Department of Children and Family Services was notified and was monitoring the situation.
