A man in his 20s who had gotten out of his car after a collision was struck and killed by a bus on the northbound Antelope Valley (14) Freeway in Palmdale, the California Highway Patrol announced Tuesday.

The man was standing in the far right lane of the northbound Antelope Valley Freeway, south of Palmdale Boulevard, when he was struck by a 2008 MCI J-Series Motorcoach around 4:35 a.m. Saturday, according to the CHP. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives did not determine drugs or alcohol as factors leading to the fatal collision, and it was unclear if the other driver remained at the scene.

The man from Albuquerque, New Mexico had been driving a 2020 Tesla Model 3. His name was not released.

The cause of the initial collision remains under investigation.

The bus was driven by a 58-year-old man from Panorama City, authorities said.
