Authorities Wednesday released the name of a 21-year-old man who exited his car after a collision and was struck and killed by a bus on the northbound Antelope Valley (14) Freeway in Palmdale.

The man, later identified by the Los Angeles County Office of Medical Examiner as Danny Montoya, was standing in the far right lane of the northbound freeway, south of Palmdale Boulevard, when he was struck by a 2008 MCI J-Series Motorcoach at about 4:35 a.m. Saturday, according to the California Highway Patrol. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim, who was from Albuquerque, New Mexico, had been driving a 2020 Tesla Model 3.

The cause of the initial collision remains under investigation.
