California Highway Patrol officers Thursday are investigating a fatal collision on the eastbound Pomona (60) Freeway in Montebello that killed a woman and left one man injured.

CHP officers responded to the eastbound freeway and Atlantic Boulevard at approximately 10:42 p.m. Wednesday regarding a multi-vehicle collision that included an orange Dodge Charger and a Nissan SUV, both of which sustained major damage, according to reports from the scene.

The woman driving the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP Officer Elizabeth Kravig told City News Service.

The driver of the Charger was taken to a hospital by Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics in an unknown condition.

The CHP issued a SigAlert that closed the eastbound freeway for several hours while they investigated the circumstances surrounding the collision
