A 34-year-old man was arrested for allegedly fatally stabbing another man in Riverside, authorities said Sunday.
Officers responded to the 3700 block of University Avenue around 12:20 p.m. Tuesday to a report of a stabbing, according to the Riverside Police Department. They found a man suffering from multiple stab wounds who was rushed to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The victim was identified as 35-year-old Jullian Hughes of Moreno Valley.
The suspect, identified as John Larry Perryman of Riverside, allegedly fled the area before officers arrived, but was later located in the area of 14th Street and Sedgewick Avenue by police detectives with assistance from the department’s Crime Analysis Unit.
Perryman was booked at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility where he was being held without bail on suspicion of murder. He was expected to appear in court Tuesday at the Riverside Hall of Justice.
“This was a senseless act of violence, and our thoughts are with Mr. Hughes’ family,” Police Chief Larry Gonzalez said. “I’m grateful for the swift and coordinated efforts of our officers, detectives, Crime Analysis Unit, METRO Team, and especially our PSET Team, in quickly identifying and arresting the suspect. Their work helped restore safety to the community, and we will now work closely with our district attorney to ensure justice is served.”
Anyone with additional information about the case was encouraged to contact detective Nic Cantino at 951-353-7104.
