A woman in an allegedly stolen work truck led officers on a chase that lasted over an hour and stretched from Hollywood north into Kern County.
The chase began around 10:10 a.m. Thursday in the Los Angeles Police Department’s Hollywood Division, a department spokeswoman said.
The California Highway Patrol took over the pursuit as the suspect, who was driving what appeared to be a traffic management contractor’s truck with an electronic digital sign on top and traffic equipment in the bed, drove north on the Golden State (5) Freeway and then onto the northbound Antelope Valley (14) Freeway.
Along the way, the woman could be seen vaping as she drove reasonably normal for the most part, occasionally speeding.
As the pickup entered the Palmdale-Lancaster area, its front tires were deflated by a spike strip deployed by a CHP officer. The front driver’s side tire quickly shredded, and the truck continued on a rim. The pickup truck slowed but did not stop until at least one of the rear tires was also flattened.
The chase ended about 11:15 a.m. on the northbound 14 near Rosamond, across the Kern County line and near Edwards Air Force Base.
The woman, clad in a black dress, was ordered out of the truck with her hands up and was taken into custody without further incident.
