Police sought the public’s assistance Friday in locating hit-and-run drivers responsible for the death of a male pedestrian in Winnetka.
The collision occurred at approximately 9:55 p.m. April 10, when a black Toyota Prius traveling south on Winnetka Avenue struck the man as he was crossing outside a marked crosswalk at Winnetka Avenue and Sherman Way, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The driver did not stop, leaving the man in the roadway, where he was then struck by a second vehicle described as a black Chevrolet Camaro, police said.
The driver of the Camaro also fled the scene without stopping to render aid or identify themselves as required by law, according to police.
Vehicle parts were recovered at the scene to help identify the suspect vehicles.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and transported the victim to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.
His name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
“Motorists are reminded that if they are involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves,” the police department said in a statement.
A reward of up to $50,000 was being offered for information leading to the identity, arrest, and conviction of the suspect.
