A 27-year-old felon accused of possession of a loaded firearm and several narcotics was arrested in Indio, police said Friday.
Orlondo Isaiah Griffin Ramirez was booked into the Benoit Detention Center in Indio on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of narcotics for sale, according to the Indio Police Department.
Bail information was not immediately available.
Detectives attempted to serve Ramirez, whose suspected of being a gang member, with an arrest warrant about 2:10 p.m. Thursday. He was found near Jackson Street and Kenner Avenue driving onto Jackson Elementary School and was immediately detained without incident on school grounds to prevent any harm onto students an school staff on suspicion that he was armed and dangerous, police said.
After a search of his vehicle, detectives allegedly recovered “a large quantity of methamphetamine, fentanyl, prescription pills and marijuana packed for sale,” and a loaded firearm and additional loaded magazine, the department stated.
A served search warrant was executed at Ramirez’s residence in the 82000 block of Oleander Avenue, where they found a young adult who attempted to flee the home and allegedly discarded an unspecified number of loaded handgun magazines into the neighbors yard. The juvenile was arrested and booked into Indio Juvenile Hall on suspicion of possession of ammunition, police said.
“The Indio Police Department continues to focus enforcement on gang-related crime, illegal firearms and narcotics sales within the community,” the department stated.
