A 36-year-old woman pleaded guilty Tuesday and was immediately sentenced to 270 days in jail for an alcohol-fueled hit-and-run collision in Rancho Santa Margarita in February that injured a 17-year-old boy.
Julia Elizabeth Royer pleaded guilty to felony counts of hit-and-run with injury and child abuse and endangerment, along with misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence causing injury and driving with a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit of 0.08%.
Royer struck the victim about 8:15 a.m. Feb. 2 at Alicia and Rancho Santa Margarita parkways, according to the criminal complaint. A 10-year-old boy was identified as the victim in the child endangerment charge.
Prosecutors said Royer was driving with a blood-alcohol level of 0.23, nearly three times the legal limit.
Royer has remained in custody since April 11, according to jail records. She was also placed on four years of formal probation and must participate in a six-month-long first offender alcohol program.
