The Los Angeles Police Department will host a memorial ceremony Wednesday to honor the 241 LAPD officers who have died in the line of duty, authorities said Sunday.
The ceremony will be held in the courtyard of LAPD Police Headquarters at 100 W. First St. It will be attended by Mayor Karen Bass and Police Chief Jim McDonnell, along with members of the Los Angeles Police Commission, other city officials and family members of fallen officers.
The program will feature traditional police honors, a roll call of fallen heroes, a riderless horse, a rifle volley, a “missing man” formation helicopter flyover, bagpipers playing “Amazing Grace,” a solo bugler playing Taps and a time-honored “end of watch broadcast.”
The ceremony will also include a performance by the LAPD Choir, a voluntary choir composed of sworn and civilian LAPD employees.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, family members, friends and partners of fallen officers will share an opportunity of remembrance and reflection as they place a long stem rose near their loved one’s name plate on the Memorial Wall.
