Police Thursday continued their investigation into the discovery of a huge cache of fireworks inside a South Los Angeles home that prompted evacuations of nearby houses.

A domestic violence arrest warrant was served Wednesday at about 6:30 a.m. at the home in the 100 block of East 85th Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

One person was arrested at the scene once the warrant was served and a bomb squad was called in to investigate the fireworks cache, an officer said.

Nearby homes were evacuated during the investigation, and a bomb squad hauled out boxes of what were described as non-commercial-grade pyrotechnic devices, enough to fill more than three box trucks, according to investigators at the scene.

People who were inside the home were detained pending an investigation by LAPD Major Crimes Division detectives, while detectives from the LAPD’s 77th Street Station were in charge of the domestic violence investigation.

A police captain at the scene said that while the fireworks were consumer grade, the huge volume made them a particular threat should a fire break out or if they became ignited somehow.

The fireworks find came after a fire in a converted garage on May 9 led to the detonation of pyrotechnics that reportedly blew a man’s body apart in the 2400 block of Ninth Avenue in the Jefferson Park area.

The victim in that case was identified as Javier Acosta, 26, whose cause of death determination was deferred.

A woman who lives next to the blown-up garage told KTLA5 she was told by medical examiner’s personnel that “parts” of the victim had been found.
