A 25-year-old man was arrested in connection with a fatal hit and run in Irvine, police said Saturday.

Felix Murillo of Lake Forest was arrested Friday by Irvine Police Department officers after he was identified as the driver of the vehicle that police say was involved in the fatal collision, said Kyle Oldoerp, an Irvine Police Department spokesman.

Police were called at 8:54 p.m. Thursday to the intersection of Alton Parkway and Irvine Center Drive regarding a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian. According to the police department, the pedestrian was walking northbound in the marked crosswalk across Alton Parkway on the east side of Irvine Center Drive when they were struck by a westbound vehicle traveling through the intersection.

Police and the Orange County Fire Authority immediately responded and attempted lifesaving measures, but the victim was pronounced dead as they were rushed to a hospital, Oldoerp said.

Murillo was identified after an Irvine community member recalled seeing a black Ford SUV with damage to its front area parked on the side of the road near Barranca Parkway, according to Oldoerp.

The police department’s Major Accident Investigation Team determined the vehicle had been involved in the collision and traced it to Murillo.

He will be booked at the Orange County Jail on felony hit-and-run charges, police said.

The IPD’s Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating this case. Anyone with information about the collision or the driver is asked to contact Det. Hank Gallegos at 949-724-7024 or hgallegos@cityofirvine.org.
