A brush fire erupted Monday alongside Interstate 10 in Calimesa, burning about an acre and disrupting freeway traffic but not immediately threatening any properties.
The non-injury blaze was reported at 10:50 a.m. Monday along westbound I-10, between Cherry Valley Boulevard and Brookside Avenue, according to the Riverside County Fire Department and California Highway Patrol.
Fire officials said multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames moving at a moderate rate through heavy brush within open space.
No homes or commercial structures were immediately threatened by the brusher, and no evacuation orders were imminent.
Several Cal Fire water-dropping helicopters were requested to make runs on the blaze, according to reports from the scene.
CHP officers shut down two westbound lanes, leaving only two available, due to the proximity of the flames to the freeway and the number of fire department vehicles parked along the shoulder.
There was no word on what might have triggered the blaze.
