An employee was shot in a leg Wednesday during an armed robbery a Santa Monica smoke shop, and the suspects involved were on the loose.
The robbery occurred at about 8:15 a.m. Wednesday at Smoke World, located at 1914 Lincoln Blvd., according to the Santa Monica Police Department.
“Officers responded to the business after reports of an armed robbery involving two suspects,” the department said in a statement. “During the incident, an employee was injured and sustained a gunshot wound to the leg.”
A police officer used a tourniquet to stem the victim’s bleeding before the worker was taken to a hospital.
The suspects were last seen leaving the area in a dark gray Dodge Charger traveling south on Lincoln Boulevard, police said, adding that the two were no longer believed to be in the area.
“Detectives are actively investigating and working to identify those involved,” police said.
Anyone who sees a vehicle matching the description of the one used by the suspects should not approach but instead call 911, police said, and anyone with information, video or other evidence related to the robbery was urged to contact Detective Martin Jauregui at martin.jauregui@santamonica.gov or the SMPD watch commander at 310-458-8427.
