Two officers and at least two other people were taken to a hospital after a police patrol unit and two civilian vehicles were involved in a crash in Menifee, authorities said Sunday.
Officers from the Menifee Police Department were involved in an on-duty crash at the intersection of Scott and Menifee Roads around 6:45 p.m. Saturday, the police department announced.
The officers were responding to an assist fire call when they were crossing the intersection and crashed with the two civilian vehicles, police said.
Cal Fire and paramedics responded and provided medical aid to the victims. All the people involved, including the officers, were taken to a hospital for evaluation. The extent of injuries and the exact number of people involved was unknown.
The cause of the crash was not immediately provided. The California Highway Patrol assumed the investigation and the intersection was briefly closed.
