A brush fire scorched about five acres of terrain near the Encino Reservoir Tuesday, threatening some nearby homes, but there were no immediate reports of injuries.

The fire was reported early Tuesday afternoon in the 4500 block of North Encino Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

LAFD officials initially believed that forward spread of the fire had been quickly stopped at about a half-acre, but the blaze spotted ahead and advanced toward homes on nearby Coronet Drive. Multiple water-dropping helicopters were summoned to the scene to help douse the flames — aided by the proximity of the reservoir.

An evacuation warning was issued for residents in the area as the firefight continued, but it was lifted late Tuesday afternoon.

Fire crews declared shortly after 2 p.m. that forward progress of the blaze had been halted.

Some power lines were also reported to have been damaged by the fire, but it was unclear how many — if any — residents lost electrical service in the area.

It’s unclear what sparked the fire.
