Laguna Beach police Monday were investigating what caused an 80-year-old woman to lose control of her car and sustain fatal injuries.
Christine Larek of Laguna Beach was killed in a crash Friday night, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
Police were called at 7:09 p.m. Friday about the crash in the 34800 block of South Coast Highway, near the Surf & Sand resort.
The driver was in a parking lot when she veered over a curb, crossed over a sidewalk and through landscaping and a fence and careened down an embankment, police said. The vehicle stopped upside down and Larek was rushed to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead, officials said.
