A fast-moving brush fire broke out amid scorching temperatures in Santa Clarita Wednesday, burning about 52 acres and prompting an evacuation warning.
Firefighters responded to the 21000 block of Centre Pointe Parkway, near Golden Valley Road, at about 1:40 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
By 2:40 p.m., the fire had consumed approximately 30 acres and was burning near homes.
Fire officials reported that the blaze had grown to about 52 acres by 3:20 p.m., with crews continuing suppression efforts amid strong winds.
An LACoFD spokeswoman told City News Service that an evacuation warning was issued for surrounding areas, but details about those locations were not immediately available.
Although no evacuation orders were in place, fire department PIO Keith Navarre told KTLA5 at about 3:30 p.m. that residents who need extra time to evacuate, including those with large animals, should leave “now.”
Temperatures exceeded 100 degrees Wednesday in Santa Clarita, with a high of 105 expected in the afternoon.
LACoFD helicopters were making water drops on the blaze, and fire officials were hopeful they would get it under control soon.
