A fire that broke out Friday in a Jurupa Valley mobile home destroyed the trailer and extended into vegetation, injuring a firefighter and damaging other properties before it was contained.
The blaze was reported at 4:50 p.m. Friday in the area of Pedley Road and Mission Boulevard, less than a quarter mile south of the Pomona (60) Freeway, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said that multiple engine crews and truck companies from the county, Corona Fire Department and Riverside Fire Department were sent to the location and encountered flames raging in the mobile home, spreading across nearly a half-acre of surrounding brush.
A firefighter who went into the burning trailer to ensure no one was trapped suffered unspecified burns to his lower extremities, according to reports from the scene. He was taken to Riverside Community Hospital for treatment.
Before crews established hose lays, the blaze reached an RV and possibly another single-wide trailer on Fircrest Lane, causing unconfirmed damage.
The vegetation fire was contained, and the blaze in the mobile was completely knocked down, by 5:35 p.m.
No mandatory evacuation orders were issued. Pedley was partially shut down by sheriff’s deputies at the location for public safety.
The occupants of the mobile home and their pets — reportedly several cats — were displaced by the blaze. Requests for assistance from Red Cross personnel were anticipated.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
