Firefighters battled a three-alarm fire at a multi-unit complex in Baldwin Park that killed one person and displaced about 60 residents, authorities said Monday.
The fire was reported sometime after 8 p.m. Sunday at 12828 E. Ramona Blvd., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
At 8:25 p.m., a second alarm was called while firefighters remained on the offensive, but they went on the defensive at 9:19 p.m. when a third alarm was called.
Fire officials also reported at 9:19 p.m. that a victim was extricated by fire crews. The medical examiner’s office was called to the scene after the victim was pronounced dead.
Roughly 60 occupants were displaced from units and the American Red Cross was called to help them find lodging.
The flames were out at 10:34 p.m. but crews remained on the scene to put out hot spots and help residents.
