A 69-year-old Long Beach woman was jailed Monday on $2 million bail on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of a woman who was assaulted over the weekend.
Officers responded just before 7:30 p.m. Saturday to the 2600 block of Grand Avenue, south of the San Diego (405) Freeway and west of Lakewood Boulevard, on a report of an assault, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
At the scene, officers found an unresponsive woman, police said. Long Beach Fire Department personnel attempted lifesaving measures but she was pronounced dead. Her identity was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Police arrested Estela Jaramillo Rodriguez near the scene after a preliminary investigation determined she had allegedly assaulted the victim, police said. She was booked on suspicion of murder. A motive remained under investigation.
Rodriguez remained jailed in Long Beach on $2 million bail, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department inmate records.
Detectives will present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration.
Anyone with information regarding the case was urged to contact Long Beach police homicide detectives at 562-570-7244.
