A 22-year-old man suspected of driving under the influence of a controlled substance was taken into custody following a collision that killed another driver in Lake Forest, authorities announced Friday.
Deputies responded at approximately 9:40 p.m. Thursday near El Toro Road and Via Ridgeline Road to reports regarding a two-vehicle crash, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
Orange County Fire Authority paramedics arrived at the location and found a man in his 70s dead at the scene, sheriff’s officials said.
The man’s name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The suspected DUI driver, identified as Joel Obed MendezCamargo, was arrested and booked on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated into the Orange County Jail.
The Major Accident Investigation Team has assumed the investigation into the fatal collision.
