A Feather Alert was in effect in Los Angeles County Sunday for a 35-year-old woman last seen at her home in Moorhead, Minnesota who may have left the area of her own accord without informing relatives.

Stephanie St. Clair was last seen June 6 in Moorhead, a city of about 45,000 directly across the Red River of the North from Fargo, North Dakota, according to the Moorhead Police Department, which notified the California Highway Patrol on Saturday of her disappearance.

The CHP announced it activated a Feather Alert for St. Clair on behalf of the Moorhead Police Department Saturday because she may be in the Los Angeles area.

St. Clair was described as a 5-foot-3-inch-tall woman weighing 145 pounds with brown hair and eyes.

Anyone with information about her whereabouts was urged to call 911.

The FBI is assisting the Moorhead Police Department in the search for St. Clair, a member of the White Earth Band of the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe.

“We currently do not have any reason to believe that Stephanie is in danger,” Moorhead Police Department Chief Chris Helmick said in a statement Aug. 6. “She was originally reported missing by a public housing employee.

“After identifying her family members, detectives attempted several times to contact them to see if they could provide additional information, but we have not heard back.”

The Feather Alert is an emergency notification system that requests public assistance in locating missing Indigenous people who have disappeared under suspicious or unexplained circumstances.
