A motorcyclist was killed Thursday in a crash in Long Beach.

The wreck was reported about 1:45 a.m. Thursday in the area of Atlantic Avenue and Villa Park, where a motorcycle and an SUV collided, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

The rider was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. The SUV driver was also taken to a hospital and reported to be in stable condition.

Police say the SUV was making a left turn from Villa Park onto northbound Atlantic on a green light. The Honda motorcycle operator is alleged to have run a red light while heading south on Atlantic when the collision occurred.

“Speed is being investigated as a potential factor in this investigation,” according to a police statement.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision was urged to contact LBPD Collision Investigation Detail Detective Johnson at 562-570-7132.
