Philippine President Benigno Aquino will receive a honorary doctorate Wednesday at Loyola Marymount University, in an invitation- only ceremony where Mayor Eric Garcetti and Rep. Judy Chu, D-Pasadena, are expected to attend.

Aquino was elected in 2010 to a six-year term, is being honored in recognition of  “his dedication to his country, his integrity and his embodiment of a Jesuit education,” said Loyola Marymount University Communications and Media Director Celeste Durant.

He will be given a Doctor of Humane Letter degree in a ceremony at noon Wednesday at the university’s Life Sciences Building Auditorium.

The fourth-generation politician is the 15th president of the Republic of the Philippines, and the only son of former Sen. Benigno Aquino Jr. and former President Corazon Aquino.
