Two San Fernando Valley schools unofficially took top honors Saturday at the LA Unified School District’s Academic Decathlon Super Quiz, the final event of this year’s battle of the brains.
The event was held at the Edward R. Roybal Learning Center gymnasium in downtown Los Angeles, according to an LAUSD statement.
Teams from the Sherman Oaks Center for Enriched Studies in Tarzana and Verdugo Hills High School in Tujunga achieved the highest unofficial score of 30,000 points.
The Science Academy STEM Magnet in North Hollywood came in second with 27,000 points and Bell and Abraham Lincoln high schools tied for third with 26,000 points.
Results will be verified and the winning team will be announced Feb. 25 at an awards ceremony at Los Angeles Mission College. The team with the highest score and additional wildcard teams will compete in the 2023 California Academic Decathlon in March in Santa Clara.
