Seven young women representing Pasadena-area schools were named Monday to the 2027 Rose Court, whose members will serve as ambassadors for the Tournament of Roses.
The seven members are Evita Bridge of Mayfield Senior School, Tessa Choi of La Cañada High School, Daniela Guzman of Arcadia High School, Irene Maddox of Eagle Rock High School, Maria Teresa McDonald of Thurgood Marshall Secondary School, Elizabeth Rweyemamu of Polytechnic School and Lucy Wendling of San Marino High School.
The court was announced Monday morning at Tournament House after its members were selected from 28 finalists.
Tournament of Roses President Terry Madigan introduced the court and welcomed its members to the Tournament of Roses family.
“These remarkable young women will share with the world this sense of hope, joy and endless possibilities that we celebrate here in Pasadena on Jan. 1,” Madigan said.
“New Year’s Day in Pasadena has provided lifelong memories for countless generations from around the globe,” Madigan added.
Members of the Tournament of Roses’ Queen & Court Committee made the selections based on criteria including academic achievement, community and school involvement, public speaking ability and youth leadership.
Each member of the Rose Court will receive a $7,500 academic scholarship and participate in personal-development programs focusing on public speaking, presentation skills, self-confidence and etiquette.
Rose Court members will also take part in community and volunteer activities, make public and media appearances and have opportunities to meet with local leaders during their tenure, according to the Tournament of Roses.
The 2027 Rose Court will ride along Colorado Boulevard in the 138th Rose Parade and attend the College Football Playoff Quarterfinal at the 113th Rose Bowl Game, both scheduled for Jan. 1.
