A fire that erupted Thursday in a refuse pile behind a Good Hope home spread into surrounding brush, scorching about an acre before it was stopped.
The non-injury blaze was reported at 1:20 p.m. Thursday in the area of Post and Santa Rosa Mine roads, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames moving at a slow rate, extending from the private trash dump to bushes and trees.
Two Cal Fire air tankers and a water-dropping helicopter were requested as a precaution, but the aircraft were waived off within a few minutes, returning to Hemet-Ryan Airport without making any drops, according to reports from the scene.
At 1:55 p.m., the blaze’s forward rate of spread was stopped.
Full containment and extinguishment were expected before 3 p.m.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
