Eighteen people were displaced Tuesday after a fire broke out at a two-story, garden-style apartment building in Koreatown, where the roof partially collapsed.
The stubborn blaze was reported at 7:22 a.m. Tuesday at 3221 James M. Wood Boulevard on the corner of Irolo Street one block west of Normandie Avenue, in a primarily residential neighborhood, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Crews encountered heavy smoke coming from the building’s attic, and the roof partially collapsed as firefighters attacked the flames.
The fire was declared out at 8:20 a.m., thanks to the work of the approximately 90 firefighters who responded to the scene, LAFD spokesman Jamie Stewart said.
Eighteen residents were displaced and the Red Cross was summoned along with utility companies and the city Department of Building and Safety.
Traffic was diverted as crews battled the fire and mopped up afterward, with city transportation department personnel directing vehicles around the intersection.
No injuries were reported.
