A big rig caught fire on the Foothill (210) Freeway in the Sunland area Wednesday, spreading flames to a nearby hillside and prompting the closure of all westbound lanes.
The big rig caught fire at about 9:10 a.m. Wednesday near Sunland Boulevard, and passersby reported the truck was fully engulfed.
Flames spread to nearby grass and brush, according to the California Highway Patrol, and Los Angeles Fire Department personnel responded to the scene.
A Sigalert was issued for the closure of all westbound lanes of the freeway, with the CHP warning that the closure could remain in place for hours.
Westbound traffic quickly backed up to Lowell Avenue.
Three lanes were reopened at about 12:45 p.m., but by then, a crash involving another big rig had closed the westbound 210 farther east in La Cañada Flintridge.
