Authorities continue to cleanup Thursday after two boats tied together in Huntington Harbor caught fire with one, a 40-foot vessel, sinking in its slip and creating a diesel fuel spill.

Huntington Beach Fire Department personnel responded at approximately 1:05 p.m. Wednesday to the fire at a residential dock in the 16000 block of Ardsley Circle, according to the department.

Firefighters quickly controlled the fire with assistance from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department Harbor Patrol. No injuries were reported, authorities said.

Firefighters used a boat-mounted water cannon as well as multiple hose lines from different vantage points on the ground. Neither boat was occupied at the time of the fire, Huntington Beach Fire Department Capt. Steve Teasdale told the Daily Pilot.

The boats were tied together, Teasdale said.

Firefighters deployed a containment boom from their department’s spill response trailer, according to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Office of Spill Prevention and Response.

A diesel sheen was observed, but the amount discharged was under investigation. The estimated maximum potential reported was 450 gallons, the Office of Spill Prevention and Response announced at 7:11 p.m. Wednesday.

No oiled wildlife was observed, according to the OSPR.

Personnel from the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach also responded to the fire.
