Aging pipes and associated infrastructure were blamed for the return of discolored water to households in Gardena.
Angry residents crowded a public meeting convened by Golden State Water Company in Gardena Thursday to show and tell of the impact of the discolored water.
The water looks and smells bad, resident Venilee Sebastian told ABC7.
The company flushed pipes in the area after previous complaints, but residents believe the problem has returned.
Golden State general manager Katherine Nutting told Fox11 the issue had been a long time coming, and there was no quick fix for it.
Nutting said the problem was the result of sediment getting into the water through aging and compromised pipes and infrastructure.
“The problem didn’t happen overnight, and it won’t be fixed overnight,” Nutting said.
Test results showed the water was within acceptable safety standards, according to Nutting.
