More than a year after a fire destroyed the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission, which temporarily housed homeless families, Los Angeles city leaders Monday will welcome families to a new 90-bed facility taking its place.

Los Angeles City Council members Paul Krekorian and Mitchell Englander will join Rescue Mission officials for a tour and ribbon-cutting ceremony at Home Again, a new facility that will house homeless families and help get them back on their feet.

A May 3, 2014, fire at the Rescue Mission’s emergency family shelter in North Hollywood also destroyed a fleet of vehicles and a warehouse of clothing and food donations.

Krekorian, whose district includes the shelter, helped raise funds to rebuild the shelter. He said the Rescue Mission “has come so far in this past year since a tragic fire took their North Hollywood shelter.”

Due to the “generosity” from members the community, the Rescue Mission is “now ready to open a bigger shelter that will continue their incredible work serving the Valley’s neediest families.”
