The Seal Beach Police Department announced Tuesday that officers assigned to its Community Oriented Policing Team will be deployed throughout the summer in an attempt to enhance public safety.

Police said the additional patrol efforts will concentrate on Main Street, the beachfront, and other busy areas that typically see heavier crowds during the summer season.

From Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, the two-officer team will conduct high-visibility patrols focused on crime prevention, traffic and pedestrian safety and community engagement.

The officers are expected to patrol on foot, by bicycle, in marked cruisers and off-road vehicles to increase their visibility in the city and respond more efficiently to public concerns, police said, adding that the team will also work closely with residents, visitors, and local businesses to address quality-of-life issues and help promote a safe and enjoyable summer season.

”Seal Beach experiences a significant increase in visitors during the summer because of our beaches, restaurants, local events and unique community atmosphere,” according to Chief Michael Henderson.

Henderson added that the COP team will allow the department to dedicate additional resources to the city/s busiest areas while fortifying relationships with residents, businesses, and visitors, noting that ”our goal is to provide a safe environment where the community can enjoy everything Seal Beach has to offer.”

The COP team is primarily stationed at the police substation near the pier, but officers may be deployed anywhere in the city in response to service calls and will also take part in outreach and educational activities throughout the summer, police said.
