Vice President Joe Biden left the Los Angeles area Thursday en route to Detroit.
Biden’s plane left Los Angeles International Airport before 8 a.m., according to an airport representative. Actor Josh Hutcherson is traveling with Biden for a planned event in Columbus.
Biden spoke Wednesday morning at the Solar Power International Conference at the Anaheim Convention Center, where he touted the Obama Administration’s support of alternative energy sources.
He then spoke during a closing session of the U.S.-China Climate Leaders Summit at the J.W. Marriott at L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles. The two-day summit was organized for officials from both countries to discuss efforts to reduce greenhouse gases and fight global climate change.
The summit came one week ahead of a planned meeting between President Barack Obama and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Washington, D.C., and ahead of the United Nations climate conference being held in December in Paris.
Xi and Obama in November announced an agreement under which the United States would work to cut emissions to 26 to 28 percent under 2005 levels by 2025, while China would cap emissions levels by 2030.
While attending the conference Wednesday, Biden met briefly with China State Councilor Yang Jiechi, discussing how the meeting next week between Xi and Obama will offer a chance to expand cooperation between the two nations on various global and regional issues, according to the White House.
At Mayor Eric Garcetti’s invitation, Biden had dinner at Garcetti’s official residence Wednesday night. Their dining companions included Garcetti’s wife, Amy Elaine Wakeland, ABC late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel and his wife Molly McNearney, Showtime Networks President David Nevins, and former California Treasurer Kathleen Brown, a sister of Gov. Jerry Brown.
