The county Board of Supervisors Tuesday honored Inglewood Mayor James Butts and welcomed the return of the Rams to Los Angeles.

Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas called the NFL’s decision last week to allow the St. Louis Rams to move to a stadium to be built in Inglewood “the culmination of a 20-year odyssey.”

“We now understand anew why Inglewood is known as the ‘City of Champions,’ because they got it done,” Ridley-Thomas said.

He added that the sports and entertainment complex would have a “profound impact on the economy of Inglewood and the surrounding communities,” calling the $1.86 billion project cost “real money” that would “change the quality of life” of the city’s residents.

Butts thanked the board and Inglewood residents.

“It took the whole community to get behind this,” Butts said.

The mayor estimated that the project would generate more than 22,000 construction jobs.

The presentation came the day after the team began accepting $100 refundable deposits for a chance to purchase season tickets for the Rams’ 2019 season.

“The system is practically crashing, so many people want to get those tickets,” Ridley-Thomas said.
